Hay there...horse here...

Fauna was rescued our of Canada as a PMU Offspring. Her options were not great and the worst case scenario always hung in the air simply because of a human process she was born into. Through human kindness that cycle was able to be interrupted and Fauna has a life-long home here in the great state of Texas at Noah's Park Animal Rescue.

Fauna spends her days grazing with her best gal pal Flora and the two are gentle giants even with smaller sized friends. Fauna always seems interested in new things and new resources, we hope to expand upon that for her as time goes on.

Fauna has aspirations to become one of Noah's Park Animal Ambassadors and work across all of our therapeutic programs as they develop. She has aspirations to give back so many thanks for all the help she has received along the way.

PMU mares are kept in small standing stalls in order to limit their movement, so not to displace the urinary bladder bags used to collect every drop of urine. The mares are kept in this manner for a lengthy portion of their pregnancy, normally about six months. Once the mares are full term and ready to deliver, they are turned out to have their foals. The mares are able to nurse their foals until weaning age, about 4 months, at which time they are separated and the mare is bred back to repeat the whole process again. This cycle of breeding has created an overabundance of unwanted foals, most of which are sold to the slaughter industry.
